Mesothelioma cancer is the growth of malignant cells in mesothelium. This mesothelium lining covers the pleural, peritoneal and pericardial cavities. pleura is a membrane that covers the lungs and is more common where there is mesothelioma cancer known as pleural mesothelioma. peritoneum, the protective covering that lines the abdominal cavity may also develop malignant tumors and cause peritoneal mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is one of the rare cases of cancer worldwide is caused only by exposure to asbestos. can be direct exposure, inhalation of asbestos or indirect exposure to inhaled asbestos particles from clothing, hair, equipment or other items that were previously exposed to asbestos.
Mesothelioma Causes

Asbestos is a natural mineral fiber that is extracted in different parts of the world because of their usefulness in various industries. However, it is a very deadly carcinogen and a cause of mojor asbestosis and mesothelioma.
Asbestos fibers are known to cause cancer of the mesothelium. Asbestos is the fibrous form of several minerals and hydrous magnesium silicate found in the field. During the last century, millions of innocent people have been exposed to asbestos, a fibrous mineral class known to cause cancer.

Often referred to as “asbestos cancer, mesothelioma is the most common cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Lethal forms of cancer are also caused by exposure to asbestos, including lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, and colorectal cancer, just to name a few.

For many decades, asbestos was considered an acceptable source of isolation, and thousands of asbestos materials are widely applied in industry and family.

Asbestos was found in a number of products in the commercial market, in many factories, homes, public facilities, and a multitude of industries, such as the production of railway, shipbuilding, and energy production.

Of the millions of people who have been exposed to asbestos in the United States, thousands have developed life-threatening diseases, many of which are aggressive cancers. Each year, approximately 10,000 people in the U.S. die from diseases caused by exposure to asbestos.

Mesothelioma Cancer
Mesothelioma cancer is caused almost exclusively by exposure to asbestos. The exact way in which asbestos causes mesothelioma is under investigation, medical professors have four different theories:

Once inhaled asbestos can stay within the organs of the body causing the cells to mutate and become cancerous.
Asbestos causes irritation and inflammation of the mesothelial cells, which results in irreversible scarring, cellular damage and eventually cancer.

Asbestos fibers enter the cells and alters the function of cellular structures that are essential for normal cell division, causing cell changes that lead to cancer.

Five major approaches to mesothelioma treatments are surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, palliative therapy, and biological therapy. Each method may be used alone, but often they are coordinated in combined programs to improve the overall treatment result. The extent of any treatment is always dependant upon a patient’s physical health condition, their age, the location and stages of mesothelioma (degree) of the disease, and the extent of asbestos exposure.

Surgery – Mesothelioma Treatment
Surgery – Patients diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma can be considered possible candidates for a surgical procedure known as pneumonectomy. This is the surgical excision (removal) of the diseased lung and, if need be, any affected parts of the surrounding diaphragm. In reality, pneumonectomy is considered a high-risk procedure and eligibility is dependant upon the patient’s present state of health and extent of asbestos cancer exposure.

Radiation – Mesothelioma Treatment
Radiation Treatment – Radiation therapy is the mesothelioma treatment of disease using either an external source of high-energy rays (x-rays or gamma rays) or internally implanted radioactive substances. These rays and substances are effective in destroying tissue and stopping the growth of malignant cells. In contrast to chemotherapy, radiation therapy is targeted towards a specific area and can treat the affected area without exposing the surrounding healthy tissue. Radiation can be used as a combination treatment along with surgery, or can be used alone to combat mesothelioma cancer. As with most treatments, a high dose of radiation can cause health complications.

Chemotherapy – Mesothelioma Treatment
Chemotherapy is the use of drugs in the cancer treatment. Standard chemotherapy treatments are either administered in the form of pills or injected medication, and may be used alone or in combination with surgery and irradiation. In chemotherapy, drugs are given according to a written protocol, or plan, that details exactly how the drugs will be given. Once these drugs are distributed in the body, however, both tumor cells and normal tissue cells are susceptible to their lethal effects, often making the patient very ill. Usually drug therapy is continued until the patient achieves a remission, which is the absence of all signs of disease. Common side effects of chemotherapy include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding, weight loss, hair loss, and overall physical fatigue.

Palliative Therapy – Mesothelioma Treatment
Palliative therapy is a relieving, but not curative method by which to treat and control the symptoms of mesothelioma cancer. During such therapy, a needle is used to drain and suction excess fluid from the affected tissue. Generally, post-palliative drugs are administered to the patient in order to prevent further accumulation of fluids.

Biological – Mesothelioma Treatment
Biological Treatment – A more recent approach to cancer treatment, including treatment of mesothelioma cancer, is the use of the body’s own defense mechanisms to fight tumor cells. Medical experts are exploring how elements of the immune system can be restored, enhanced, mimicked, and manipulated to destroy cancerous cells. Substances produced by normal cells that either directly block tumor growth or stimulate the immune system and other body defenses are called biological response modifiers. Examples of these substances are interferon (made by lymphocytes which are important in immune response), monoclonal antibodies (derived from mouse cells and capable of binding to human tumors in an immune response), colony-stimulating factors (CSFs) that stimulate blood forming cells, and interleukins that stimulate the immune system.

Medical records pertaining to asbestosis or mesothelioma must be extracted from the archives of the past. Without clinical history collection and recovery of the warnings of imminent coming of asbestosis and only witness of the sufferings of a patient with asbestosis or death languishing in a mesothelioma cancer patient.

Mesothelioma is a rapidly growing tumor that threatens the Italian people. Has already killed thousands of men and women and continues to be diagnosed at an alarming rate. One of the main reasons for this rapid increase is due to lack of awareness among people about this particular disease - mesothelioma.

People often ask how to prevent mesotelioma and other diseases caused by  asbestos. Although most men are not yet aware of the risk of mesothelioma, family members and friends of victims of mesothelioma are deeply concerned about ways to prevent mesothelioma that affects others. This is one of the main reasons for me to write this article.

Origin of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is closely linked to the end of asbestos, a mineral used in many products that meet on a daily basis, which is the main cause for this type of cancer. Treatment of malignant mesothelioma is no cure. In diagnosing the disease is already so extensive that recovery is no longer possible.
