Mesothelioma treatment options

Unfortunately, at present there is no known cure for malignant mesothelioma, although several important advances have been made in the form of treatment of the disease. Any prognosis for treatment efficacy and the future of the disease depends on several variables and criteria, including tumor resistance to treatment, tumor cell type, tumor stage and size, and how much the tumor has progressed before detection.

It is also regrettable that the disease is spreading as it does. Mesothelioma is not like many other types of cancer that does not grow in a standard form of tumor. Instead, it extends along the surfaces of organs, cavity walls and blood vessels. This makes the disease more difficult to target and therefore more difficult to treat effectively. There is no cure yet for asbestosis. Asbestosis treatment involves preventing other complications of the disease and treating its symptoms. The speed with which the condition progresses depends on factors such as: how much like asbestos has been breathed in, if the disease has occurred soon after exposure, if there are other symptoms such as clubbing and if the patient smokes.

The most reliable treatment for asbestosis is oxygen therapy as it increases oxygen flow in the body and counteracts the effect of dyspnea. Symptoms are relieved by the use of immunosuppressive drugs and corticosteriods. (more…)

Symptoms of asbestosis include shortness of breath, dyspnea appointed. Note that the dyspnea appears first only on the effort and subsequently occurs at rest. Rarely occurs before a decade of exposure. Persistent and productive cough could also be a symptom of asbestosis. Annoying dry cough can sometimes end up in chest pain.

Other symptoms include chest pain, chest tightness, fitful sleep, feeling sick and loss of appetite. The inability to engage in physical activity is also a symptom of asbestosis. You may notice that symptoms of asbestosis are similar to that of asthma. However, the effects of asbestosis are insidious, occurring over months and years. (more…)

Are you constantly exposed to asbestos fibers? Exercise caution as it may very well lead to asbestosis. Asbestosis can be very misleading as it develops years after exposure to asbestos fibers. Asbestosis is a lung condition, designated “fibrous pulmonary disseminated.”

The asbestosis could range in severity from mild to asbestosis severe asbestosis. While the resulting mild asbestosis just any impairment, severe asbestosis could prove fatal. The asbestos worker who smokes is very susceptible to lung cancer. (more…)
