Types of Treatment

Medical Detoxification
Detoxification is usually used as a precursor of other treatments treatment and its purpose is to mitigate the possible effects of the interruption of drug use. It consists of administering medication paulativamente decreasing doses until withdrawal of the person. It can be done on an outpatient or inpatient. This type of treatment is not designed to handle the psychological, social and behavior associated with addiction and therefore, does not usually produce lasting behavioral changes necessary for recovery.

Psychotherapy
addition to pharmacological treatments, interventions to change behavior, especially cognitive-behavioral therapy can be effective in reducing drug use in patients because of drug abuse. The provision of therapeutic services in an optimal combination for each individual is critical to successful treatment outcomes. therapy management of situations endow the people of the resources needed to address those situations that cause the problems for them, and established as environments that stimulate or trigger the desire to comsumer. The behavioral interventions have been developed cognitive to help change the thinking, expectations and behaviors of the patient and increase their ability to cope with various stress factors causing in life.

Programs agonist maintenance treatment (Mentadona)
In November 1997, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which are medical research centers who were born in the United States, gathered a group of Consensus on Effective Medical Treatment of Drug Addiction . This group of experts from across the nation concluded that opiate drug addictions are brain diseases and medical conditions that actually they can be effectively treated. Strongly recommended (1) increased access to treatment programs methadone maintenance for people who are addicted to heroin and other opiate drugs, and (2) the elimination of federal and state regulations and other barriers, that impede access to these programs. He also emphasized the importance of providing counseling substance abuse, psychosocial therapies and other patient support services that promote retention and success of treatment programs for methadone maintenance. The Methadone, a synthetic opiate medication hinders the effects of heroin for about 24 hours, has a proven history of success when prescribed at concentrations high enough for people addicted to heroin. The LAAM, also a synthetic opioid drug to treat heroin addiction, can prevent the effects of heroin up to 72 hours. Other approved products are naloxone, which is used to treat cases of overdose, and naltrexone, which block the effects of morphine, heroin and other opiates. Also are studying other drugs used in treatment programs for heroin. (more…)

Medical Records Asbestosis

Medical records pertaining to asbestosis or mesothelioma must be extracted from the archives of the past. Without clinical history collection and recovery of the warnings of imminent coming of asbestosis and only witness of the sufferings of a patient with asbestosis or death languishing in a mesothelioma cancer patient.

Asbestosis and mesothelioma statistics are very undervalued due to lack of many nations to implement an efficient recovery of properly care for physicians and patients to diagnose lung disease who suffer from asbestosis or mesothelioma from exposure to asbestos.

In many countries, physicians are able to correctly diagnose the disease is rarely, if ever, available. These same countries often have poor outcomes maintenance of systems to monitor health trends and study the medical records. Many times, asbestosis and mesothelioma are just for reference? Lung disease? without a proper determination of the classification of lung disease.

Years before these progressive lung diseases begin to show their presence in the healing, but a file of medical history can facilitate correct diagnosis, and the national archives of medical records can provide early warning. Despite this knowledge, India has no record of cancer, nor do they have a system of registration of cases of asbestosis and mesothelioma. In the Philippines, the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) reports that diseases caused by asbestos will be under diagnosed due to low participation of employers in the filing of medical records to a central body. (Less than 5% of employers do so.)

Mesothelioma and Asbestos

mesothelioma and asbestosMesothelioma is a rapidly growing tumor that threatens the Italian people. Has already killed thousands of men and women and continues to be diagnosed at an alarming rate. One of the main reasons for this rapid increase is due to lack of awareness among people about this particular disease - mesothelioma.

People often ask how to prevent mesotelioma and other diseases caused by  asbestos. Although most men are not yet aware of the risk of mesothelioma, family members and friends of victims of mesothelioma are deeply concerned about ways to prevent mesothelioma that affects others. This is one of the main reasons for me to write this article.

Origin of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is closely linked to the end of asbestos, a mineral used in many products that meet on a daily basis, which is the main cause for this type of cancer. At the end of 1970 and 1980, the use of asbestos has been largely reduced regulation by the government. But we must accept the truth that we all use asbestos in our daily life. Places such as school, workplace, public places and in construction.

Asbestos and Human Carcinogen

Asbestos- Experts predict an increase of respiratory diseases related to asbestos in the coming years, given the prolonged latency of the mineral, up to 20 years, hence the importance of regular health examinations for workers who have been exposed to act on factors such as smoking that can aggravate these diseases

- There is a considerable percentage of occupational respiratory diseases undiagnosed, so that in most cases the occupational respiratory disease is detected at the level of specialized care health services.

- Declared health interest by the Government of Navarra and organized by the Group Erol and the Department of Pneumology of the Hospital Virgen del Camino, the course will include a talk addressed to the general public under Asbestos, Dangerous Neighbor.

Asbestos is among the most important human carcinogen. Overall, it is thought that Spain is the most important occupational carcinogen. Among all agents potentially toxic to the lung is that very important, having referred figures of up to 20% of lung cancer deaths in some populations at risk. Thus, in studies conducted in other countries, like Spain, occupations involving exposure to asbestos (construction, workshops, shipyards, etc.) Have been among the most commonly associated with lung cancer of occupational origin.

Despite the use of asbestos increasingly limited in recent decades, and recently banned in our country (in 2001 the Ministry of Labour and Social Security prohibits the use of asbestos and demolition except in chlor-alkali production), given the long latency existing between exposure to the mineral and the appearance of disease symptoms, up to 20 years, today they are still largely clinical pleural previous exposure and is expected to increase in coming years for certain diseases associated with asbestos.

Mesothelioma Types

types of mesotheliomaThere are five types of mesothelioma. Four of them are malignant cancers, and a condition is benign.

Pleural Mesothelioma: This type of mesothelioma develops in the tissue of the lungs, known as the pleura. It is the most common form of malignant mesothelioma, about 70 percent of cases are pleural in origin.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma: This form of mesothelioma develops in the tissue of the abdominal cavity, known as the peritoneal membrane. Approximately 25% of mesotheliomas are of this type.

Pericardial mesothelioma: This form of mesothelioma develops in the heart tissue, known as the pericardium. About 5 percent of all mesothelioma cases are pericardial.

Testicular Mesothelioma: This is the rarest type of malignant mesothelioma, to date, there have been fewer than 100 cases recorded. Testicular mesothelioma develops in the tunica vaginalis of the testes.

Benign Mesothelioma: The benign form of mesothelioma is commonly develops in the pleura. This is the only form of mesothelioma which healing and recovery is a likely outcome, although it may be a precursor of asbestos-related problems in the future.

How are people exposed to asbestos?

People are mainly exposed to asbestos via inhalation of fibers in the air they breathe. This may occur during mining and processing of asbestosinstalling asbestos insulation and for the production of products containing asbestos or . It can also occur when materials containing asbestos older begin to deteriorate. In either situation, the asbestos fibers tend to create a dust composed of tiny particles that can float in the air. In addition, asbestos can enter the body through ingestion, what happens when people consume contaminated food or liquids (such as water flowing through asbestos cement pipes). It can also occur when people cough who have inhaled asbestos and then swallow their saliva. (more…)

Cancer Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma

This cancer affects the pleura, the membrane surrounding the lungs and lines the chest cavity. In 75-80% of cases, cancer of the pleura is associated with exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos fibers migrate into the pleura, where they trigger an inflammatory reaction. In the long run, 20 to 50 years, this attack eventually stimulate the proliferation of malignant cells.

The business sectors most at risk of exposure to asbestos and therefore at risk of cancer of the pleura are plumbers, pipefitters, boilermakers innkeeper, the areas of shipbuilding and processing of asbestos.

Overall, the incidence of mesothelioma increases with age. These are generally those over sixty years who have been detected this type of cancer.

Moreover, the diagnosis is not easy and cancer of the pleura is often confused with lung cancer. As for the prognosis of this rare but aggressive cancer, it is rather dark, but everything depends on the stage at diagnosis.

Mesothelioma Asbestos Cancer

The internal organs of the human body are encased in a protective sac called the mesothelium mesothelilial Examples of membranes are the peritoneum (abdominal organs), pleura (lungs), and the pericardium (heart) Under certain conditions, divide the cells of the protective membrane is uncontrolled and the development of cancer

This disease causes as mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that is detected by prolonged exposure to asbestos dust The disease in those that occur in work, is as shipyards, asbestos mines and factories, industries that produce asbestos products, and the heating and construction companies around 3,000 cases occur each year in the U.S., and most patients are aged between 50-70 years statistics show that men are commonly affected, (more…)

Sensitive Test For Asbestos-Cancer Developed

Scientists at the University of Oxford have indicated that, according to a more sensitive test for Asbestos mesotheliome developed. This cancer arises long after asbestos exposure. The life expectancy of patients is usually short.
The new test analyzes the levels of a protein that is closely associated with the cancer in the fluids around the lungs. Details of the study were published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

Mesothelioma tumors are deadly on the surface of the lung. Although relatively rare, they should be treated because of their position and their limited response to chemotherapy difficult. The disease also occurs in people who have never come in contact with asbestos. Inhalation of asbestos dust seems to be a key risk factor. Most importantly, always craftsmen such as carpenters, plumbers and electricians involved. Since it can take decades to break out a disease, experts expect according to the BBC that the number of diseases in the UK with around 2,200 in 2013 will reach a peak. Laws prohibit the industrialized countries the occupational exposure to asbestos. In developing countries there are no such restrictions. (more…)
