The symptoms of mesothelioma manifests itself elapsed between 20 and 40 years after the person was first exposed to asbestos. Moreover, in many cases the patient develops symptoms only two or three months before the disease has been diagnosed.
Symptoms of Pleural Mesothelioma
The restriction in breathing, cough and chest pain resulting from the accumulation of fluid in the pleural spaces (particularly in the lining of the lungs) are the most common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma. A malignant tumor of the pleural tissue is a clear sign of mesothelioma. In the later stages of this cancer patient collapses in the lungs as the excessive accumulation of air or gas in the pleural cavity and that is what is known as pneumothorax.

The claims for diseases related to asbestos exposure are complex claims in which the lawyer has to be from a technical point of view fully informed. Lawyers as forming part of Oria, Pena, Pajares & Associates clients want to know and understand this disease and their rights.
The reason for the existence of these claims is because there is medical evidence linking asbestos with this type of cancer. There are many cases in which judges have decided that this disease have been responsible for the company that manufactured and used asbestos and workers who put in a situation of risk.
When legal proceedings of this type starts is when the lawyer realizes that time is the essence of everything. And is that the aggressiveness of this cancer is such that the rate at which destroys the lungs and other vital organs makes life expectancy ranges between one and two years.

The incidence of malignant pleural mesothelioma is increasing and is expected to increase in many developed countries over the next two decades. In 80% of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma, no clear history of occupational or domestic exposure to asbestos. Very few patients are suitable for any potentially curative treatment is uncertain and the effectiveness of treatment with radical surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy in curing patients or prolonging survival. The role of radiotherapy is controversial. It has been used as a component of combination therapy (with chemotherapy or surgery). To date, the reviewers have not found any reports of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that show that radiotherapy is an effective option for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma. Experimental studies are needed to assess the role multicentre radiotherapy in this disease.
Background
Malignant pleural mesothelioma is a relatively uncommon disease, but its incidence is increasing and is expected to increase in many developed countries over the next two decades. Treatment of patients with malignant mesothelioma is controversial. Very few patients are suitable for any potentially curative treatment is uncertain and the effectiveness of treatment with radical surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy in curing patients or prolonging survival. Although radiation therapy has been used as part of combination therapy, its role is controversial. This review will try to clarify these uncertainties.

Mesothelioma is a malignant cancer that can start in the cavities of the lungs, heart, or abdomen. This cancer is the direct result of exposure to asbestos disturbance, in which the fibers become airborne. These airborne asbestos fibers can then be easily ingested or breathed in by those nearby that are not using adequate protection. Once the asbestos fibers are housed in the various parts of the body can not destroy the cells of the immune system, which are known as macrophages. Instead, the asbestos fibers lead to scar tissue within the body and this is what can lead to mesothelioma and other asbestos-related injuries.
People who have contracted mesothelioma with asbestos exposure does not not realize that something is wrong for years. The period of latency typical for this cancer is around twenty – forty years, which means that those affected can not find out for three or four decades following the exposure. Further delays may be experienced because of the symptoms of mesothelioma, which are very non-specific in nature – this means they could be easily attributed to other more common disorders. This often leads to a delay in diagnosis, causing further delays when it comes to treating the whole order.

According to experts, the best treatment for mesothelioma is one that combines surgery with intraperitoneal quimiohipertermia. While this scheme is very aggressive treatment, the results of experiments show that the 4 yrs of being audited and subjected to therapy, patients have a survival of 67%. And what is more surprising, 61% of them have no traces of the disease. These results are well above the expectation of survival and cure the old strategies that had the tumor.
The surgery can take between 14 and 16 hours, and is of significant complexity. According to the specialist Marcello Deraco, Tumor Institute of Milan (Italy), the drawing can be done entirely peritonectomy the tumor or at least leaving a residue that can be attacked after the intraperitoneal quimiohipertermia. The latter objective is to eliminate any free tumor cells in the abdomen. This special type of chemotherapy offers the possibility of using the dual effect of high temperature. On the one hand, the heat itself is active against neoplastic cells, and promotes entry into the cells of certain drugs and their anticancer activity. On the other, allows to use the cancer drugs in doses well above those supplied by the intravenous route, and minimizing adverse effects.

Mesothelioma is a cancer which is posing a serious challenge in the medical science and humanity. The more information that is collected about this only leads to cancer that the only way we can combat this disease is diagnosed earlier so that effective treatment could be carried out. And therein lies the challenge.
Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to mineral called asbestos. Once this mineral is in its path of mesothelial cells that leads to the development of this dreaded cancer. Mesothelium is a membrane that forms a protective sac around the organs inside the human body. It has different names depending on which body being covered. In general, there are five types of mesothelioma is pleural mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma, mesothelioma of tunica serosa of uterus, and mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis. Most reported cases are those of the pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma.
